Rekindle (Buckinghamshire Libraries)

producing

Rekindle is an innovative nationally funded initiative by the National Lottery Project Grant, Arts Council England.

Operating as an action research project that allows libraries to test, research, and refine cultural engagement programmes in their context and share their learnings across the country, Rekindle is a national network of peers exchanging, developing, and disseminating what they learn – both in terms of practice and long-term strategies.

Between 2023 and 2026, Farnham is partnering with Buckinghamshire Libraries and Culture to work with five libraries identified as key places of interest in the project: Burnham, Buckingham, Chesham, Aylesbury and High Wycombe, to explore how libraries can commission and produce work, engage with artists and understand how to operate as a cultural venue.

Since the start of the project, libraries have hosted performances and workshops including Fun Palaces, The Head Gardener performances, Craft Your World workshops, Black British Ballet and Sci-Fi days, Fizz Whizz.

Future plans include more family performances, workshops and shows pitched at adults and older audience members, a national training programme for libraries and artists and a ‘Pitch Up’ networking event in November 2025.
