The Venue

The main entrance, Box Office, maltings stores and riverside café are fully accessible on the ground floor. The Box Office has a lowered counter-top section for wheelchair users to place their orders. The Great Hall, Cellar Bar, Barley Room, Tindle Studio and Tannery are accessible via stairs or lift. There are two accessible toilets. One is located on the ground floor, and one on the first floor. The toilet on the first floor is only accessible to wheelchair users via the Tannery. The Great Hall can accommodate up to four wheelchairs.

If you require an additional Carer/Personal Assistant to accompany you when attending an event, get in touch with the Box Office before booking (subject to availability). There are eight free parking spaces in our car park for Blue Badge Holders.

A hearing induction loop is available in the Great Hall. Contact Box Office in advance if you require access.

Films or screenings with subtitles are listed in the brochure or on the web pages for each screening.

Registered assistance dogs are welcome throughout the building.

A visual story helps you to get a feel for the venue before you attend. Printed copies are available at Box Office. Alternatively, explore a virtual tour in ahead of your visit.

Relaxed Screenings and Performances

These events are aimed at encouraging and welcoming audiences who would benefit from a more relaxed environment. This includes (but is not limited to) those with autistic spectrum disorder, people with sensory and communication needs, people with learning disabilities, people with symptoms of dementia, those who require medical equipment and families with young children. We aim to create a friendly atmosphere staffed by people who are aware of audience members with additional needs.

Relaxed performances have a number of distinct features:

  • Dim auditorium lighting, on throughout
  • Music or soundtrack volume is reduced
  • A relaxed attitude to noise and moving around the auditorium
  • Doors open earlier than usual
  • Food and drink are welcome in the space
  • Foyer space with colouring and a place to sit.
  • For relaxed screenings, there are no trailers
  • For relaxed theatre performances, there may be a pre-show touch tour and meet and greets with the company.

Touch Tours

These provide an opportunity for audience members to have access to the stage and set to explore the world of the performance before the show. They may receive extra detail along with handling selected props, costume or furniture. These tours can be useful for those who are blind or partially sighted and can be helpful to ease anxiety or worries. Tours are free and can be approximately 15-20 minutes in length. Not all shows are able to offer tours however those that can will be clearly labelled.

We are developing our programme to offer a wider range of accessible events. Your feedback is very welcome. Please contact Box Office if you have any suggestions or experience any barriers to access.
