We are committed to welcoming everyone to our vibrant building. If you are attending a performance or event, please let Box Office know as far in advance as possible if you have any special needs or access requirements. We will do our best to meet your needs effectively.
We are developing our programme to offer a wider range of accessible events. If you would benefit from performances that have captioning, BSL interpretation, touch tours, post-show discussions, audio description, induction loop, relaxed performances, dementia friendly performances or anything else, please get in touch with a member of Box Office staff. We cannot guarantee to accommodate your needs, but we will do our best.
Please get in touch with our Box Office staff on 01252 745444 or email if you have any suggestions or experience any barriers to access.
Relaxed Screenings and Performances are aimed at encouraging and welcoming audiences who would benefit from a more relaxed environment to enjoy our shows and films. This includes (but is not limited to) those with autistic spectrum disorder, people with sensory and communication needs, people with learning disabilities, people with symptoms of dementia, those who require medical equipment and families with young children. We aim to create a friendly atmosphere staffed by people who are aware of audience members with additional needs, including anxiety or those unfamiliar with visiting the venue.
At a relaxed screening and performance, there is dim lighting and the music or soundtrack volume is reduced. Individuals are welcome to make noise, move around and leave the space. The doors open earlier than usual, and, as with all of our screenings and performances, food and drink are welcome in the space.
There is also a visual story available to get a feel for the venue before you attend.
Unfortunately, we can’t offer an accessible chill-out space, but the foyer is always open with colouring and comfy sofas. For relaxed screenings, there are no trailers or advertisements.
For relaxed theatre performances, there may be a pre-show touch tour and meet and greets with the company. Touch tours provide an opportunity for audience members to have access to the stage and set to explore the world of the performance before the show. They may receive extra detail along with handling selected props, costume or furniture. These tours can be useful for those who are blind or partially sighted and can be helpful to ease anxiety or worries. Tours are free and can be approximately 15-20 minutes in length. Not all shows are able to offer tours however those that can will have a clearly labelled ticket online or can be booked via box office.
If you’re unsure if a relaxed performance or screening is suitable for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Box Office.
Look out for this symbol in our brochure which denotes relaxed screenings and performances.
