Dates & times
Successful dressmaking projects rely on a properly sized pattern. This four-week course takes you through the steps to size a basic block, and create a perfect fit dress block to your own measurements.
Once adjustments have been made, you will be able to use this as your own block to create skirts and tops.
The course will cover:
- Taking body measurements and identifying the correct size block to your measurements
- Making adjustments to the block
- Making a basic pattern with seam allowances
- Cutting out the prototype pattern as a ‘toile’ in calico and sewing together
- Fitting and adjusting the toile
- Transferring the adjustments to your block pattern, ready for creating a style
If you would prefer you may instead bring the dress pattern you wish to adjust.
Materials required:
- 1 roll of white pattern paper or wallpaper lining paper
- An HB pencil, eraser and Biro pen
- Scotch invisible tape
- Tape measure
- Paper scissors
- Tracing wheel (with sharp points)
- Sewing machine in working order (bring power/ foot pedal)
- Bobbin, thread and spare needles
Once you have created your dress block, you can join Wendy on her course in March: Introduction to Using Your Personal Block.
