Dates & times
This workshop is designed for knitters who struggle to achieve a great fit in a top-down, circular-yoked sweater, whether it’s tight shoulders, too-snug underarms or a neckline that feels like it’s trying to strangle you.
The workshop will take a deep-dive into short row shaping and how it can be used to help you achieve a great fit around the neckline and yoke of your sweater. Participants will learn how to measure themselves to calculate the amount of short row shaping that is ideal for their own body and how to translate those measurements according to gauge. If you are unfamiliar with short row shaping, the German Short Row technique will be taught.
We will also be exploring other ways in which a pattern can be customised to suit personal preference and body shape, particularly looking at sizing choice, the point at which the yoke is separated into body and sleeves, the underarm cast-on seam and armhole position. Some of this will be specific to Unwind Knitwear designs, but much will be transferable to other designers’ work too.
Suitable for intermediates. Students should be comfrotable knitting in the round and knitting a circular top-down yoke sweater.
Please bring with you: - a calculator (the one on your phone will do, if you have one) and pencil. - Optionally, participants will be offered the opportunity to try on a sample as part of the practical activity during the session.
