Learn how to combine ink with watercolour and use exciting techniques to create interesting effects. The session will cover drawing, watercolour, ink, colour mixing, composition, tone and materials.

The workshop will focus on painting trees with and without backgrounds, but all of the techniques you will learn can be transferred to different subjects.

If you have any images of trees that you would like to use, please bring them along, although Julie will provide plenty of material for inspiration.

materials required:
  • Brushes - sizes 1, 4, 6, larger brush (10 or 12) and a very large brush if you plan on working big! Plus, an old brush for mixing
  • Pencils - H or HB & 2B or 3B
  • Putty rubber
  • Masking tape
  • Ruler
  • Sharpener
  • Rough watercolour paper for practice and testing colours
  • Watercolour paper - minimum weight 140lb HP or NOT/CP(300gsm) for flowers, 200lb(425gsm) NOT/CP for landscape sketch pad drawing paper/ cartridge paper.
  • Notepad & pen
  • Mixing palette
  • 2 drawing boards
  • Water jar
  • Ink dripping pen (medium drawing nib)
  • Pot of waterproof ink or acrylic ink (sepia, black or brown)
  • Fine waterproof drawing pen - size 0.3 (Staedtler or similar)
