In this workshop you will create a sewn seascape using scraps of fabric and free machine embroidery.

You will learn about compositions, how to add texture by layering and combining fabric and how to add detail using hand sewing, embellishing with buttons, beads and different types of fabric, and free machine embroidery to create a tranquil scene.

Throughout the workshop there will be plenty of demonstrations and hands-on assistance.

Sample images will be available, but you may like to base your piece on a sunset or sunrise or something that you have captured on holiday or in a special place. The image is just the starting point, as your piece will naturally develop and change slightly as you work with the fabric, so don’t worry if you don’t have a specific image to work from.

The finished piece would make a lovely wall hanging, or you can present it in a frame (frame is included in the price).

Materials required:

  • A sewing machine which has a free machine foot (also commonly known as a darning foot)
  • Bondaweb (approx. A3 size, the frame is 25 x 25 cm but you may want spare)
  • Plain cotton: approx A3 size (this will be used as a backing fabric and not seen, so an old sheet for example is fine)
