Tap into the colourful world of glass fusing and create your own stunning lantern adorned with four bespoke fused-glass panels in this immersive one-day workshop at Farnham Maltings, led by award-winning glass artist Caroline Small of Bombina Glass Studio.
This friendly, hands-on class introduces you to the fascinating art of glass fusing — including glass compatibility, how glass behaves and transforms in the kiln, and how to combine colour, texture, and transparency for creative effect. You’ll also explore the use of glass frits, noodles, stringers, and paints, learning how these materials interact to produce vibrant, tactile surfaces.
Guided throughout by Caroline, you’ll design and assemble four unique panels to replace the plain glass in a 28cm lantern, transforming it into a glowing, personalised artwork. Your pieces will then be kiln-fired at around 750°C to fuse the glass while preserving your chosen details and textures.
Once cooled and finished, your lantern will be ready for collection from Farnham Maltings approximately one week later. Suitable for beginners and improvers alike, this workshop offers an inspiring and mindful creative experience — and you’ll leave with a beautiful illuminated lantern that celebrates the magic of fused glass.
