Sam has taught fashion and textiles for over 25 years across further and higher education, private studios and events including Festival of Thread. She is currently the Course Manager for a Level 3 Fashion and Textiles programme, teaching textiles, drawing, portfolio development, and fashion illustration, as well as supporting learners progressing into employment and higher education. She also tutors online for the School of Stitched Textiles. In 2022 she received the Teaching and Learning Award at the Hampshire Education Awards.

Sam is an active member of two textile studio groups, collaborating to explore techniques and develop new work. After studying natural dyeing with Jenny Dean in 2022 she has continued to expand her natural dye practice. In 2024 she undertook an indigo research trip to Japan and began collaboratively teaching natural dye courses with Ginny Farquhar.
