Merrian studied art at Falmouth School of Art and graphic design and illustration at Solent University. She spent many years designing costume jewellery for the V&A, Historic Royal Palaces and the Natural History museum which lead on to her becoming an ecommerce specialist. Now Merrian is teaching crochet and designing crochet patterns full time.

Her aim is to build community and an appreciation of crafting through teaching crochet. With a focus on natural fibres and an appreciation for the skills required to creative crochet garments, Merrian is a supporter of the Slow Fashion Movement.
