Suraya specialises in hand knitted and crocheted mixed-media jewellery and patterns.

Her South Asian/Bangladeshi heritage is a huge influence in her work, drawing inspiration form vintage Mughal jewellery styles of India and Persia. The use of fine crocheted wire replicates the intricate filigree work found in traditional Mughal jewellery. She incorporates luxury crystals in a myriad of colours, to recreate the colourful enamelled jewellery pieces from the past. She also designs knitting and mosaic crochet patterns, with concerns for the environment highlighted in her recent temperature projects. She has also incorporated ancient Islamic geometry into her newer mosaic crochet designs.
