Printmaker Judith Westrup makes multi-layered linocuts of the Kent and Sussex landscape. She overlays many translucent gradient layers of ink to capture the gentle slopes of the chalk downland, the sunken lanes of Weald and the wide skies along the coastal marshes.

Judith works on each print intuitively over many weeks, engrossed in the slow and repetitive physical processes that characterise the medium of linocut - deliberately carving the linoleum plates, carefully rolling ink and slowly winding the cast-iron press before lifting each print, layer by layer. Judith works from her kitchen studio at the foot of the North Downs.
