Painting and drawing have always been vehicles of expression and reflection for Howard, but it is only in recent years that he has returned to them more conscientiously. He likes to experiment with a variety of mediums and subjects, but, at its core, his practice is about his observations of everyday life; moments that make an impression on him, perhaps when he's on a walk with his family or on holiday. Howard captures these moments with the help of sketchbooks, photos and memory and brings them back to his studio to turn them into more refined pieces.
