Carol Small - Bombina Glass

Caroline Small is an award-winning glass artist who works across both stained and fused glass, creating distinctive pieces that explore the interplay of light, colour and form. Alongside her commissioned work, she teaches fused glass classes at Farnham Maltings, sharing her passion for the material with beginners and those looking to develop their skills.
Caroline has worked with glass for many years, combining traditional techniques with a contemporary approach to design. Her work ranges from decorative fused glass pieces to bespoke stained glass panels for interiors, each carefully designed to respond to its environment and the way light moves through it.
With a background in science, Caroline brings a unique perspective to her practice, particularly in her exploration of glass behaviour, structure and optical effects. This technical understanding sits alongside a strong artistic sensibility, resulting in work that is both precise and expressive.
Her inspiration comes from a wide range of sources, including natural forms, geometric structures and the shifting qualities of light. She is particularly interested in how glass can transform a space, adding colour, atmosphere and a sense of quiet luxury.
Caroline was awarded Architectural Stained Glass Artist of the Year in the 2022 Stevens Competition, recognising both her design work and craftsmanship.
