Alma Boyes

Ceramic work explores the historic technique of agateware, prominent in the UK in 17th/18th century notably by Josiah Wedgewood. Each piece is individually hand-crafted using a porcelain body, thrown and turned on the wheel. This collection includes tableware and large lidded vessels, some which are adorned with hand-modelled birds - predominately British species including blackbirds, crows and sparrows. The colour combinations are inspired by bird plumage which informs the range of functional pieces. This new work brings together my experiences of designing and producing industrial ceramics, with many years specialising in portraits and sculptures of endangered species for bronze casting.
