Alice Butcher
Alice trained as a surface pattern print designer before going on to run the prestigious Liberty Sewing School in London for a number of years where her passion for teaching sewing and dressmaking was born. For the last twenty years she has collaborated with long term friend Ginny Farquhar, originally running “Folkydokee Handmade” making handmade products from up-cycled and vintage fabrics, and for the last twelve years teaching a variety of sewing and textile classes for both adults and children at Farnham Maltings and the surrounding areas.
She is passionate about teaching others to sew and enjoys passing on her knowledge and skills, to enable her students to feel empowered and have the confidence to achieve great results from their sewing projects. Her special interest is in dressmaking, endeavouring to ensure that the student gets a good fit and finish to their garments and she has become quite adept at fitting via zoom during the past year!
Outside of teaching, her great loves are dressmaking and patchwork (both machine and English Paper Piecing).
She is co-author with Ginny of three craft books; Sew Fabulous Fabrics, Home Sweet Sewn and Sewing For Kids.
