Join artist and embroiderer Helen Sill to learn how to upcycle old jeans into a beautiful purse, inspired by the ancient Japanese art of sashiko.
Sashiko is a traditional Japanese embroidery technique that involves creating small, simple running stitches in a repetitive pattern. It originated in Japan during the Edo period as a way to reinforce and repair worn fabrics. Today, it is used in quilting, decorative embroidery and fashion, with its intricate designs continuing to inspire creativity.
Using traditional sashiko stitching and paper transfer techniques, you'll embellish your denim with a traditional Japanese emblem. This hands-on class will teach you how to transfer designs onto fabric using sashiko embroidery, while also giving new life to old jeans.
Perfect for those looking to learn new skills while creating something unique and meaningful!
