What is batik? Where does it originate from? Did you know that at almost 2000 years old, batik is the oldest resist method of decorating fabric?

Rosi Robinson was first introduced to batik in 1970 and for over 50 years, it has been her passion. She has been fortunate to have travelled, exhibited and taught workshops around the world - all because of batik!

Rosi will do a short demonstration of batik, showing the different ways of applying wax, as well as how she paints on the dyes. During the presentation Rosi hopes to convey the versatility and magic that batik has to offer and how it can be adapted to a variety of textile and artistic processes. She will discuss the history of batik and how it has spread throughout the world and have examples of both traditional and contemporary batik which people can handle.
