Join watercolour artist Kristina Kivu for a relaxed day learning the fundamentals of watercolour painting in a playful, approachable and hands-on way.
Learn the basics by experimenting, playing and seeing how watercolour behaves. Explore core techniques including colour mixing, brush control, mark making, wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry through a series of fun, guided experiments designed to help you get a feel for the medium.
And then you’ll put those techniques into practice. Through simple projects including loose florals and expressive landscapes, you will see how washes, marks, colour and water can be combined.
There will be plenty of demonstrations, guided exercises and one-to-one support throughout, with lots of room to experiment and find out what happens when you change the amount of water, the pressure of your brush or the way you apply paint.
By the end of the session, you will have a practical understanding of the fundamentals of watercolour, a collection of experiments and paintings to take home, and a much clearer sense of how to keep exploring the medium on your own.
You will be given a complete watercolour kit, including paints, brushes and paper, to use during the session and take home afterwards.
All materials are provided, but feel free to bring any favourite watercolours, inks, crayons, pastels, pencils, or any mixed media materials.
