Dates & times
Join textile and natural dye artists Ginny Farquhar and Samantha Jones for an inspiring day creating a natural indigo dye vat and exploring a variety of ways to pattern fabrics using shibori techniques.
You will be introduced to several shibori methods, including Kanoko, Itajime, Arashi, and Nui Shibori. One of the techniques will involve hand stitching, specifically using a running stitch, so please be prepared to spend some time hand-sewing.
This workshop is suitable for all skill levels, as the techniques can be adapted to fit everyone's knowledge. You'll leave with a variety of indigo shibori samples and the confidence to continue exploring the processes at home.
Materials required:
- Rubber gloves
- Apron
- Notebook and pen
- Camera / mobile phone for recording
All other materials will be provided, and you'll have the option to purchase an organic cotton scarf to create a lasting memento of your day. Feel free to bring small fabric items, such as old cotton or linen placemats, to decorate and dye using the techniques you learn.
