Come along to our Handmade in Farnham open day to learn how you can get involved in next exhibition, plus take part in some free craft activities.
Handmade in Farnham will explore the contemporary face of Farnham's crafting heritage. Farnham and the surrounding area, has a huge number of makers, from those just getting started and the internationally renowned to those who enjoy craft as a hobby. We want to use this exhibition as a catalyst to explore the more recent history of Farnham’s crafting heritage by involving the very people who have helped create it.
This exhibition will engage people with Farnham's craft history by displaying the museum's existing craft collections alongside a curated selection of loaned craft items from the local community. This juxtaposition would give us opportunities to link the past with the present and help generate discussion around how craft continues to enrich both the wellbeing of the local community and the economy.
This open day is part of a series of events giving the community to find out more about the museum’s craft collection and the forthcoming exhibition. The museum team will be on hand at each event to help people log their interest in taking part in the exhibition or collect crafting stories over a cup of tea or coffee. The roadshows will also feature fun, hands-on crafting activities which tie directly to the museum's collection, plus the chance to see museum's craft collection up close.
This event was made possible by the support of Community Foundation for Surrey and the South Street Trust.
