As our programme resumes, we are thrilled to see a return of our craft programming. First up is thread… a festival of textiles, one of five craft festivals held at the Maltings, this coming Sat 19 September. Sewists and stitching enthusiasts can take part in a variety of workshops and shop from over 40 exhibitors for fabric, notions and other crafts supplies.
“Following the success of our Virtual Thread Festival in June we are excited to be able to welcome visitors back to our craft events in person,” said Caroline Pearce, Craft Coordinator at Farnham Maltings. “Being able to share ideas online is wonderful but there’s something extra special about being able to see and choose your fabrics, or learn something new, in person.”
A curated and socially distanced thread marketplace will be set up throughout the Maltings along with timed entry tickets and a one-way system. Participating thread exhibitors include The Maker’s Atelier, Dovetailed London and Fabrics Galore, among others. There will also be live chats with exhibitors on the @threadfestival Instagram for those who aren’t able to attend but want a little bit of that festival excitement from home.
For visitors wanting to try their hand at something new, a number of workshops are on offer as part of thread. From drawing with stitch to statement macrame earrings or even making your own porcelain buttons there is plenty on offer to try. Sponsored by Janome, workshop tickets include entry to the marketplace and have a limited capacity to allow for social distancing.
