When This is Over

young people

Be a part of a new play capturing young people's stories about their past, their present and their future.

Does anyone really know where their story starts?

Do you?

Maybe it only really starts when you tell it...Maybe it’s starting right now..?

We are looking for young people aged 16-25 to create and perform a new play that shares the stories of their lives.

Farnham Maltings is joining youth theatres all over the UK in creating their own unique version of 'When This Is Over', a play in which people tell the stories of what has happened to them in the past, who they are right now, and who they want to be in the future. Devised purely from the words, lives, hopes, and dreams of the young people who make up its cast, 'When This Is Over' is a play about those pivotal moments that change your life forever staged at a pivotal time in history.

The project will take place between 18 November 2021 – 25 February 2022 (final performance 25 February 2022) and during this time you and the rest of the cast will share and develop your life, into an original play, culminating in a public performance at Farnham Maltings.

Who?
  • Open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 25.
  • You don't need to have any acting experience to take part as it's your own story you will be telling! You just need to be brave, willing to share and take risks, and enthusiastic to tell your story to an audience.
When?

You will need to be available for the creation, rehearsal and performance dates listed below. However, if you are keen to participate but have a conflict with a date/s, we may be able to make an exception if we are told about the absence now. Please list any of the dates you are unavailable on the application form so that we can take this into consideration.

More about 'When This Is Over'

This project is the brainchild of Company Three, a leading force for change for teenagers in North London and around the world. They began work on the play during the second Covid lockdown in 2020 and will perform their version just before world leaders gather in Glasgow for the International Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November 2021.

It is not a play specifically about Covid, or the Climate Emergency, but about the young people who will live through and negotiate the impacts of both.

Company Three are passionate about giving young people the power to tell their own stories and make their own change, and have therefore invited other youth theatres, schools, and other groups of young people to make their own versions of When This Is Over.

Over forty youth theatres around the UK will be creating their own version of 'When This Is Over' and building a community in which their young people can share discoveries and form links that we hope will last well into the future.
