Relaxed screenings return for the summer season, offering audiences who would benefit from a more relaxed environment the opportunity to watch our film programme.

What exactly is a relaxed screening?

A relaxed screening is where the cinema environment is made as welcoming as possible and suitable for everyone and anyone. For those who might experience anxiety surrounding a traditional cinema screening due to additional needs, this where you can sit back, relax and enjoy.

Screenings are aimed at (but not limited to) those with autism spectrum disorder, people with sensory and communication needs, people with learning disabilities, people with symptoms of dementia and those who require medical equipment. Screenings for families with young children are now happening with our new Parent & Baby Film Screenings.

How does a relaxed screening work at Farnham Maltings?

Before the screening you can engage with the Farnham Maltings Visual Story. Available to download or pick up at our Box Office, the visual story is a narrative of what your visit will look like, allowing you to engage with our building before stepping foot in it. Click here to download the Farnham Maltings Visual Story.

  • Doors will open earlier than usual, with food and drink welcomed in the space.
  • There will be unreserved seating on our rake.
  • There are no trailers or adverts.
  • Lighting is dim, as opposed to a dark room, and the audio volume is reduced.
  • You can make noise during the film and move around the space. You can also leave and re-enter the room at your leisure.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot offer an accessible chill-out space due to the nature of the building. But our foyer is always free to relax in on our comfy sofas.

Our staff are trained to respond to audience members’ additional needs, giving extra information about the venue, understanding how to deal with anxiety and providing a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere.

What films are on this season?

Tolkien on Thu 27 June, 2.30pm

Rocketman on Thu 18 July, 2.30pm

Yesterday on Tue 20 August, 2.30pm

How can I find out about screenings and book tickets?

The screenings are publicised in our brochure as well as online under the film section of what’s on. When looking at the films just look out for this symbol:

relaxed screenings

which denotes a relaxed film screening. You can book online or via our Box Office on 01252 745444.

How much will I pay for a relaxed screening?

Our relaxed screenings are exactly the same price as all other film maltings screenings:

Adult £7, Senior Citizen/Student £6, Under 15 £5, Member £4.

If I’ve enjoyed a relaxed screening what else do you have on offer?

In the autumn we will also have Relaxed Performances as part of our Theatre and Family programme.

What if I’m still not sure if a relaxed screening is for me? Or have some feedback to give?

Just get in touch with the Box Office on boxoffice@farnhammaltings.com or 01252 745444 for more information or to chat about what you might like from a relaxed screening.
