This outdoor event marks a huge milestone for New Adventures and Farnham Maltings, as it will be the first time New Adventures have performed since lockdown began and when their UK tour of The Red Shoes was abruptly brought to an end. This day aims to be a celebration of New Adventures love of storytelling, participation and bringing people together through the joys of dance!

Taking place on Sat 12 September, you can expect an interactive, family-friendly, action-packed day of workshops, followed by a series of duets and a Q&A with Sir Matthew Bourne himself ahead of an exclusive preview screening of The Red Shoes film ahead of its nationwide cinematic release on 30 September.

Start the day by taking part in New Adventures Treasure Hunt, searching the grounds for hidden words that will be used to create mini dances in this playful workshop perfect for children and families, led by New Adventures Resident Artist, Paul Smethurst.

Delve into the world of The Red Shoes by joining an Open Workshop; a chance for anyone and everyone to get moving and explore the themes and choreography from the show.  We’ll deliver a playful and energising New Adventures style warm up before teaching some of The Red Shoes repertoire and offering a chance to create your own moves, led by your favourite New Adventures dancers, Danny Reubens and Ben Brown, our Resident Artist, Paul Smethurst and Associate Artistic Director, Etta Murffit.

The spotlight will also shine on the wonderful New Adventures dancers as they perform curated Duets from The Red Shoes, allowing them to finally step out of their living rooms and leap back into live performance!

Finally, bring your questions and curiosity, and raise a hand for Sir Matthew Bourne as he will be taking part in a Q&A ahead of our very special preview screening of The Red Shoes film.

Matthew Bourne said today: “Finally the time has come where we can all get together and enjoy a day of dance and celebrate in the magic of The Red Shoes. It feels like a world away when we last got together with our wonderful dancers, so I cannot express how excited I am to see them again and have them perform for you at our South East home base, during a time when this couldn’t be more needed. I’m also looking forward to sharing the exclusive preview of The Red Shoes, I hope you will adore it as much as I do”.

The New Adventures outdoor event and film screening at Farnham Malting promises to be a truly special day for everyone involved. New Adventures is a national portfolio organisation supported using public funds by Arts Council England.
