“9 to 5 has to be one of the catchiest songs ever…”

Vicki Sayers returns to grills & guitars this summer after an amazing gig last year. With influences ranging from sumptuous-sounding singers to rock royalty, she has plenty in her locker to provide us with an evening of irresistible crowd-pleasing. Read on to hear more from Vicki.

What can we expect from a Vicki Sayers gig?

An up-tempo mix of pop, jazz and country. I love to share my music and tell stories through my music. Oh, and percussive guitar riffs are my thing!

Why do you love performing music?

Sharing my music is so rewarding when people are able to relate to songs or enjoy what I’m performing. I love making people happy or writing songs that relate to people’s lives – sharing music is something I have so much fun doing! I often play at weddings and private events too; having the opportunity to play at such special occasions in people’s lives is so rewarding.

Who are your biggest heroes or influences?

As a child I listened to AC/DC and became obsessed with the guitar. I was later introduced to the likes of Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne by my older sister and now look for inspiration from all different genres and performers. I cover songs from many different eras and genres and look for influences wherever I can.

What is your favourite song to perform?

My favourite song to perform has to be Wade in the Water by Eva Cassidy. It’s a little jazzy and so much fun to both sing and play. It always picks the crowd back up and I never get bored of performing it.

If you could pick one act, living or dead, to join you on stage for a song, who would it be (and what would you perform together)?

I would love to play with Dolly Parton! She’s such an amazing songwriter and vocalist. There are so many other people I’d also love to one day perform with but Dolly’s 9 to 5 has to be one of the catchiest and most relatable songs I’ve ever heard.

You can see Vicki Sayers as part of our summer of free live music on Friday 09 August. If you wish to pre-order some food off the barbecue you can do so here.
