“Music is like an addiction for me…”
The immensely popular Grizzly Rhys Morgan returns to Farnham Maltings to continue our summer of free live outdoor music. He won’t need any introducing to many of you, but he had a little chat to us anyway. Have a read to get to know (or reacquaint yourself with) the man they call ‘Grizzly’.
What can we expect from a Grizzly Rhys Morgan gig?
I use a variety of guitars in my performance including lap slide and acoustic guitar, and most of the music is original. The songs I write are based on life’s experiences and things I feel passionate about. The music is Roots & Blues, and the vocals are gritty – goes with my Grizzly persona.
Why do you love performing music?
I find music is a great way to express myself, and I enjoy telling the audience the stories behind the songs I write. Music is like an addiction for me, and I love the high that comes from an enthusiastic and appreciative audience.
Who are your biggest heroes or influences?
Jackson Browne, James Taylor, John Butler Trio and Justin Curry from Del Amitri (a very underrated songwriter).
What is your favourite song to perform?
Running to the Sea – one of my own.
If you could pick one act, living or dead, to join you on stage for a song, who would it be (and what would you perform together)?
Stevie Ray Vaughan – Pride and Joy
You can see Grizzly Rhys Morgan perform at grills & guitars on Friday 02 August. Check out the grills that will accompany his guitars on the event page. Make sure you order your food by noon the day before if you would like to tuck in. Click here to book yours.
