In this workshop, tutor Elizabeth Williamson will take you through the basic stitches and techniques of Shetland Lace knitting. At the end of the session, you will have a swatch of the Cat’s Paw pattern on a garter base.

The patterns of Shetland Lace reflect everyday life and especially the sea, which is so important to the islands. The Cat’s Paw is one such pattern: it has been used for generations in lace knitting both in Shetland lace and in Orenburg, Russia.

It is a great beginner's pattern and can be used in different arrangements to form the centre of haps or shawls and scarfs.
