A photo of a group of people dipping ceramic bowls into water after a Raku session

Come and learn the wonderful art of raku and experience the fun of glazing and firing the raku. You will have the choice of a thrown piece of ceramic made before hand so you can glaze. Raku generally refers to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku usually involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and carefully placing them in to sawdust or combustible material, this process ebonises the bare clay body revealing the crackle glaze. The kiln and removal of pottery from the kiln will be done by our resident ceramicist Penny Eccles.
