Learning the basics is easier with help at hand! This amazing flexible stitch built of diagonal ‘bias’ blocks can be developed If you have already mastered the basics, by using different stitches to change it dramatically for different visual effects and for shaping garments. It’s also endlessly interesting to play with colours and stripes for different effects.
Level/Ability: Intermediate/experienced knitters
Notes, any additional info, what do people need to bring? Please bring knitting needles and yarn for sampling, any weight or thickness, and a notebook for sketching ideas.
Tutor biography: Alison Ellen
Alison has run a small business designing and making hand knits for 35 years, dyeing her own yarns. She teaches short courses, and has published 4 books on designing in knitting.
Her interest in both designing and teaching is to explore how the stitches work, and how different stitches can shape fabric and create garments knitted without seams, to suit different people and to be a pleasure to wear. She encourages students to have confidence to make their own designs.
She runs courses for West Dean College (Chichester), Societies of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, and other textile groups in the UK, Canada and Sweden.
Workshop ticket includes a tea/coffee and same day entry to unravel. Class duration – 3 hours.
