with Juju Vail
This class is designed specifically for knitters who want to learn to knit by throwing or picking the yarn with their left-hand. “Continental knitting” (or “picking” as it is sometimes known) is usually much faster with smaller, more efficient movements than the more typical “English” style (also known as “throwing”).
Level / Ability
This class is for you if, you already knit but one of the following is true:
• The repetitive motions of English knitting cause hand fatigue.
• You would you like to be a faster knitter
• You would you like to be a looser knitter
• You want to work fair isle (or stranded) knitting quickly
A number of different holding and tensioning methods will be demonstrated for knit and purl stitches. Ideally students will complete all the knitting WIPs they have on the go and come to the class, leaving their old “English” habits behind.
Partipants should bring dk or thicker yarn along with suitable needles to practice.
Juju trained and worked as a fashion and textile designer and has written numerous books on craft subjects including “Juju’s Loops” with Loop, London. Juju has also written other popular Loop patterns such as the Pop Spots and Charm shawls. She was the Guest Editor of Pom Pom’s Autumn 2017 issue.
She writes knitting patterns, blogs, teaches, photographs, paints and draws in London. Juju is a Continental-knitting “picker” and believes herself to be the world’s fastest knitter but hasn’t proved it…yet.
