This workshop for beginners will introduce you to the possibilities of dyeing and mark making with rust on cloth using found objects. Starting with a talk on her own practice, Jule will explain the processes involved, demonstrate which fabrics give the best results and cover the basic equipment and materials needed to rust dye cloth. Participants will then be able to gain hand on experience at processing rust dyed cloth which Jule has prepared in advance of the workshop. Each participant will leave with a collection of their own rust-dyed cloth samples.
Tutor: Jule Mallet
Jule has been dyeing with rust for over a decade and combines rust dyed cloth with print, thread and vintage linen to create whimsical soft sculpture creatures and 2D pieces which celebrate the beauty of the imperfect, unfinished and mundane.
