The Rushmoor ‘Odd Fellows’ Male Voice Choir raison d’etre is to sing for the enjoyment of others, to raise money for local good causes and at the same time to enjoy the camaraderie that the choir provides. During the course of an average year we help raise £10,000 for charity.
Founded in 1960 by Geoffrey Waller to sing in the Aldershot Music Festival, approaches to local church choirs brought volunteers from many walks of life. Since there was an odd one from here and an odd one from there, the name "Odd Fellows" seemed very appropriate. Over the years we have been privileged to be invited to sing at Festivals around the country and in Germany, including 6 appearances at the Royal Albert Hall in the London Welsh Festival of Male Voices.
The choir is made up of forty to fifty members who sing in four-part harmony. Our repertoire contains over 400 different items that we have collected over time. It includes typical male voice choir items from Welsh hymns to songs from the shows, from modern popular songs to operatic classics and lots more in between. Since 2001 our choir’s Musical Director has been Steve Petch and our accompanist for the past thirty years has been Margery Wakefield – quite a team!
Join us, and guest performers, for a fun evening of entertainment and music, including popular Christmas numbers. As always, we support a charity important to us, and for this concert we have selected The Prostate Project.
Running time: approx 150 mins
