A circle of hands hold their Raku pottery bowls over buckets to wash them.

Come and learn the wonderful art of raku and experience the fun of glazing and firing the raku. You will have the choice of a thrown piece of ceramic made before hand so you can glaze. Raku generally refers to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku usually involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and carefully placing them in to sawdust or combustible material, this process ebonises the bare clay body revealing the crackle glaze.

The kiln firing and removal of pots from the kiln will be done by our resident ceramicist Penny Eccles.
