We’re creating a new piece of dance to celebrate age and challenge ageism. Taking inspiration from Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella and working with New Adventures & Re:Bourne, this taster session is available to anyone aged 55+ who wants to find out more.
New Adventures & Re:Bourne, a resident dance company at Farnham Maltings, are delighted to create a brand new piece of dance theatre for My Shout. This unique project will see professional dancers from the company working with participants to create a performance inspired by Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella.
This New Adventures production is a thrilling and evocative journey through London during the Second World War. Bourne’s interpretation of Prokofiev’s haunting score has, at its heart, a true wartime romance. A chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.
We will work with a group of participants over the course of seven weeks, to choreograph a piece of dance that captures the energy and drama of this wartime era, evokes the joy and freedom felt at the end of the war and explores the exciting social dance styles of the time.
Embodying the core themes of this Celebrating Age project, our aim is to empower and inspire participants with the magic of dance, and through the humorous, expressive and narrative style of New Adventures. Participants will contribute creatively to the choreography through various exercises, games and devices. The project will culminate in a performance at Dance in the Meadow 2018. There will be further exciting opportunities to perform the piece, to be determined very soon.
We are looking for positive, life loving, enthusiastic people aged 55 and over, who have a passion for dance and some experience in dancing and movement. Technical dance training is not a necessity but some movement experience is desired. We are really keen to work with both men and women!
Workshops will be Wednesdays, 11.30am-4pm, April & May 2018.
