Who is this training for?
Professional, Creative Practitioners actively working with and for communities in Surrey. This is an ideal opportunity for practitioners who work within well-being and mental health focussed programmes or projects. This is a focussed workshop aimed at professional practitioners to help them develop skills and creative techniques around their own well-being and resilience.

Creative Resilience for Artists workshop with Oliver Jones:
Oliver is the Director of Creativity Works, a socially engaged arts organisation and national portfolio organisation based in North East Somerset. The company delivers projects with a focus on mental health and wellbeing, place-making and community development, alongside co|Create; a comprehensive programme of support, training and development for artists working in social practice. His background is as a theatre director and practitioner having worked previously for the National Youth Theatre, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Trestle Theatre Company, and Cambridge Junction Develop the tools to bounce back from difficult situations and use your creativity to build a positive outlook for your life and career.
During this workshop you will explore the elements of personal resilience, enabling you to develop and grow through times of change and challenge. By the end of the course you will:
– Understand what Resilience means and how to apply it
– Develop the skills and confidence to manage challenging situations
– Identify personal assets and strengths
– Develop your innate creativity
– Learn flexible and adaptable approaches to problem solving
– Stay motivated
Mind Fitness workshop with Beth Wood
Beth is the Artistic Director of Prospero, an inclusive theatre company that uses drama as a developmental tool to improve the quality of life of adults and young people with disabilities and mental ill health. With Andy Barker Beth is the co-founder of Mind Fitness Training and the co-creator of the Mind Fitness Training Programme. Andy and Beth have designed programmes for a wide range of organisations from very large corporates to tiny charities.
However rewarding it undoubtedly is, the pressures of working in the arts in a social context can be immense. Often we find ourselves in situations where we are required to give support beyond the reach of our creative practice. The Mind Fitness session will give you simple and accessible techniques to look after your own mental health and the mental health of those you work with.
Techniques covered in the session include:
– How to remain focussed and deal with negative thoughts
– How to identify good and bad stress
– How to recognise the fight or flight response and employ techniques to help restore your mind to a place where is can think clearly
– How to reframe negative thoughts and employ positive thinking in difficult situations
