The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be profoundly different.
Spencer is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.
Director: Pablo Larraín
Cast: Kristen Stewart, Sean Harris, Amy Manson
“Kristen Stewart is subtle and uncannily precise as the people’s princess''

This is so far from the traditional retellings of the Royal Family that we’ve seen in the likes of The Crown and The Queen, but that is what makes it brilliant. You might remember Pablo Larraín’s Jackie in 2016 - Spencer follows the same premise. We follow Princess Diana through a day in her life on the Sandringham Estate. She is contradictory, bolshy, tortured, funny in a way she is never allowed to be in the faithful biopics. Lean into the fiction of this film and it will pay dividends.
