Aboard the USS Pinafore, Gilbert and Sullivan will boldly go where no one has gone before … to outer space. Captain Corcoran’s ship has been fitted with photon torpedoes and his crew have their phasers set to stun. The ship will seek out new life and new civilisations, equipped with all Sullivan’s music and most of Gilbert’s words, but in a brand-new version that is guaranteed to beam you up, far from Earth. “It’s live theatre, Captain, but not as we know it …”
HMS Pinafore continues to be one of the most popular Gilbert & Sullivan shows. It has been cited and parodied scores of times, including in Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Simpsons, Batman, Chariots of Fire and, of course, Star Trek – The Next Generation, which was the inspiration for FAOS’s bold new rendering of this classic.
Fresh from its near sell-out runs of Sister Act and Titanic, FAOS returns to the Maltings with its reputation for fabulous singing and inspired staging. The directorial team is Heather Legat and Diana Vivian, who piloted the very successful FAOS productions of The Pirates of Penzance and Titanic the Musical. Expect classic G&S music and humour with an extra-terrestrial dimension!
