Help Dot, Smidge, Mooch and Nora save their beloved clocktower – in the nick of time!

Cloud Cuckoo Land put children right at the heart of the story in this new play, full of interactive musical fun, sensory storytelling and movement games. A cast of actor-musicians create a unique 360° immersive listening experience by playing a wide variety of instruments live, all around the audience.

Children join in with the music-making through clapping, singing, movement, call-and-response and imaginative suggestions. The post-show musical stay-and-play session offers hands-on engagement with acoustic instruments, as children develop their own musical ideas through play.

Directed by 2014 REP Foundry artist Katerina Pushkin, Ding Dong combines the talents of musicians from the worlds of classical, world, folk and indie-pop music to create an original and highly accessible introduction to live music-making. Keep an ear out for all sorts of instruments, including saxophone, clarinet, banjo, mandolin, viola, accordion, melodica, flute, recorder and lots of different hand-percussion…

“Wonderful and fun, really creative and inclusive… forgot I was in a theatre!” – audience member

Ding Dong’s development has been generously supported by Arts Council England, The Sir Barry Jackson Trust and Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

You and your child can meet the Ding Dong characters and find out more about their story and the music they play at This free, interactive pilot project is supported by Arts Connect West Midlands as part of their Partnership Investment Programme. New child-friendly activities are being added regularly.

The performance lasts approximately 65 minutes, and is followed by an informal musical stay-and-play session, facilitated by the characters (during which you and your child can come and go as you please).
