Superbly intelligent, highly articulate and deeply sour.
The UK comedy scene’s most bigoted scumbag, back with an all new show full of morally repugnant, borderline criminal material in the very poorest taste. No laugh too cheap. Bring a friend who’s easily offended, and be sure to take everything at face value.
With every passing minute of his set, ‘Uncensored’, you marvel at his chutzpah and worry that he has a death-wish; will he make it to September? He repeatedly goes for the jugular issue: why have we become so afraid to speak our minds?
Speaking your mind used to be the norm for stand-up comedians, it was part of the attraction of the job and along with the desire to make people laugh, claims Lawrence, it’s why he got into the business in the first place. And on this form, thank goodness he did.
***** Edinburgh Evening News
It is the last third of this show which stays with you. It is quite extraordinary and everyone should see it. He talks about the “toxic” industry he is in. The show is called Reasons to Kill Yourself and that is, in a way, what he does here, comedically speaking. It is powerful, sad, angry, true stuff.
Double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, as seen on Live At The Apollo, and star of four series of his own show on BBC Radio 4.
