Farnham Maltings is becoming a centre for all things festive this month with a season of gift making workshops, big music and dance evenings, fantastic theatre for adults and children and of course the annual Christmas Fair. Here are some of the highlights from what’s coming up this month:
Ballet Cymru: Cinderella
Thu 03 · 7pm · £17 (£15 conc., £10 under 15s); maltings menu available
The Welsh Ballet company, Ballet Cymru returns to the Maltings on Thursday 03 December with an evening of magical dance and a classic fairytale. Ballet Cymru prides itself on being different and Cinderella will be no exception, with a brand new music score and circus elements combined with the finest classical dance. You can complete the evening by booking a maltings menu where you can enjoy your starter and main course pre show then return in the interval for your dessert and interval drinks in the relaxed atmosphere of the riverside cafe.
All Together Now: Family Dance
Mon 07 · 3pm – 5pm · £10 (£5 under 18s, carers & under 12s free)
Dust off your suits and build up your beehive, The All Together Now: Family Dance is for all ages, and is very much a family affair! Grandparents, grandchildren, daughters and sons, siblings, cousins, aunties and all are welcome at this after school, afternoon of fun retro dance, which will be topped off with live music from The Retros!
Tue 08 – Wed 09 · 12pm – 9pm · £1 (members & under 15s free)
The hugely popular 2 day Christmas Fair is back with over 150 stalls stocked full of gifts, treats stocking fillers, hand crafted items, a delicious food emporium, drop-in workshops, choirs and festive food and drinks. Bring a friend, there is something for everyone!
It’s a Wonderful Life
Thu 11 – Sat 13 · 7pm (Sat matinée 2pm) · £12 (£10 conc., £40 family)
Following a hugely successful 2014 UK tour, It’s a Wonderful Life returns to Farnham Maltings. George Bailey, discovers the difference he has made to his family, his friends and his home town (with a little help from Clarence, the apprentice angel). The show is created by the Farnham Maltings Company and is a magical way to get in the mood for Christmas. For ages 8+.
Clare Teal’s Festive Fiesta!
Fri 18 · 8pm · £20; maltings menu available
Now in its seventh year Clare’s much loved Festive Fiesta promises a unique blend of seasonal swing, cheeky retro grooves and a smattering of cosy fireside ballads from the new First Lady of Jazz. You can also enjoy the three course maltings menu this evening too.
Willow Stars, Reindeers & Trees Family Workshop
Sat 19 · 9.30am–11am & 11.30am–1pm · £20 (admits 1 adult & 1 child)
Take a break from shopping and have fun together making rustic decorations from willow with local craft maker Judith Needham.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, by Blunderbus Theatre
Sat 19 & Sun 20 · 11am & 2.30pm · £7
Blunderbus Theatre wowed the audience with the beautiful puppetry show, I’ve Seen Santa last Christmas, now they return with the story of a little boy who wants to be a world-class magician. This spellbinding show uses a magical blend of music, puppetry and high-energy story-telling, perfect for children aged four and over.
Maltings Marvellous Christmas Club
Mon 21 – Tue 22 · 9am – 12.30pm · £17 for 1 day, £30 for 2 days
Farnham Maltings continues to grow it’s children’s school holiday workshop programme after the success of the Maltings Marvellous Summer School and half term craft and theatre workshops. The two day children’s club features two mornings of mixed Maltings activities including dance, drama and craft. Hopefully this should give mum and dad time to finish sorting the Christmas arrangements! Suitable for ages 7–13.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
Wed 23 · 11am, 3pm & 8pm · £7 (£6 conc., £5 under 15s, £4 members)
Before the Maltings closes for the holidays, film maltings offers up one final classic Christmas treat with The Muppet Christmas Carol. The Muppets perform the classic Dickens’ tale, with Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge played by the magnificent Michael Caine.
