Refreshers: a festival of retirement is returning at the new evening time of 3pm-8pm, Monday 4 March 2019. Refreshers 2019 stallholder application forms are now open.

Refreshers is an annual festival at Farnham Maltings designed especially for those who have retired, or are approaching retirement, to find new connections and fresh inspiration.

Taking the model of a typical university freshers fair, Refreshers showcases a wide range of clubs, societies, organisations and companies each with diverse opportunities for those living and thriving nearby.

Retirement doesn’t have to mean a time to start slowing down, it can be a fantastic chance to take up a range of new hobbies, learn something new and give a little time back to the community.

Refreshers is organised as part of Farnham Maltings’ Arts & Health programme and in collaboration with Meet Me at the Maltings. For more details, please visit our arts & health pages.

Age UK Surrey

Age UK Surrey is a local independent charity established for over 50 years providing services to improve the quality of life for people in Surrey aged 50+.  We work to reduce isolation and loneliness, improve the health and wellbeing of people, and provide information and advice.

Aldershot Floral Design Club

Aldershot Floral Design Club. Meets the first Thursday of every month. A busy, sociable club with 160 members. The club offers training, workshops and competitions – and welcomes everyone.

Alzheimer’s Society 

Alzheimer’s Society supports everyone who is affected by dementia.   Side by Side supports people with dementia to access events and activities within there local community.  This is achieved with the support of volunteers who are matched with clients who have the same or similar interests

Arthritis Research UK – Farnham Branch 

The Farnham Committee supports the aims of Arthritis Research UK. We welcome new members and those who would enjoy assisting with fundraising events, e.g bridge lunch, street collections and coffee mornings. We publish a regular newsletter.

Driving Miss Daisy is a companion driving service, to help people remain independent and enjoy life. Our customers include the elderly, people with disabilities, vulnerable adults, those living with Dementia, children going to school or other activities. We are a trusted, safe and reliable service.

FAOS Musical Theatre Group 

FAOS Musical Theatre Group has been performing in Farnham since 1928. Twice a year we stage a show in the Maltings’ Great Hall with a live orchestra. We are a friendly and enthusiastic group and we welcome anyone who would enjoy performing, lighting, make-up, wardrobe, crewing or scenery building.

Farnham Bowling Club

Farnham Bowling Club celebrates its 140th Anniversary in 2018. We welcome Ladies and Gentlemen with or without experience to join us at our Town Centre Green.

Farnham and District Ramblers 

Farnham Ramblers offer a range of walks in and around Farnham to suit all abilities. Led by experienced leaders, our programme includes short and longer walks, daytimes and evenings, weekdays and weekends, all taking place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Farnham and Farnham Weyside Rotary Clubs 

The two Rotary Clubs in Farnham are part of the International Rotary organisation. We aim to help our local community and communities worldwide by raising funds through events big and small, while also providing our members with interest and fellowship through a programme of regular meetings.

Farnham Area Timebank

Farnham Area Timebank is a new way to help in your community and get some help in return, meet people and swap skills.  It lets local people and community groups come together to lend each other a helping hand.  No money exchanges hands, the only cost is people’s time. Give an hour – get one back.

FATN Talking News

FATN Talking News is a Farnham based volunteer run charity which provides free audio versions of local newspapers and magazines for visually impaired listeners in Farnham, Alton, Fleet, and Haslemere.

Frensham Pond Sailability 

Frensham Pond Sailability provides opportunities for those with disabilities or long term illnesses to enjoy sailing. We provide specially adapted boats and our helper volunteers enable our sailors to get the most out of the sport, at the level they enjoy.

Friends of Farnham Park 

A group who love and support Farnham Park. We have a weekly volunteer group with the Ranger for practical tasks – both conservation and visitor enhancement, and events such as talks, walks and a BBQ throughout the year.

 Inspiring Enterprise (Surrey Community Action)

The Inspiring Enterprise project offers free support to help people develop the confidence and skills they need to become self-employed or to create a social enterprise.
Our support is completely free of charge but you must not be in paid employment when you join. Funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund.

Macular Society

The Macular Society helps people adapt to life with sight loss, regain their confidence and independence and take back control of their lives. We provide information and support and have a peer group in Farnham.

Museum of Farnham

The Museum of Farnham has been engaging visitors with Farnham’s past for over fifty years. Discover our collections through our wide-ranging programme of imaginative events and exhibitions.

Performers Together

Perfomers Together is a Community Interest Company, incorporated in March 2012 to support Performing Arts organisations and individuals in the community who wish to participate in,  or experience a high standard of Performing Arts including theatre, dance, orchestral, choral and other concerts.

Rowhill Nature Reserve Society 

Volunteer run nature reserve.
The field centre – talks, events, games, teas, newsletter. The Reserve – coppicing, maintenance, hedging, new bridge to be constructed. An abundance of flora and wildlife. Our 50th anniversary. Volunteers wanted all ages and activity levels. Very friendly.

Right at Home GF 

Right at Home GF offers quality care and companionship in the comfort of a client’s own home. We offer a minimum of a one hour call, ensuring that our clients never feel rushed, through to 24-hr live in care.


The RNLI is the charity dedicated to saving lives at sea.  To the extent possible this is achieved through volunteers with funding raised entirely from charitable donation.  The Farnham branch raises money locally in support of this aim through collections and fundraising events.

Rushmoor Male Voice Choir 

A group of men from the Hampshire/Surrey area who love to sing. We aim to entertain our audiences, to raise money for charity and to have fun doing it!

Rural Life Centre 

The Rural Life Centre is an open-air museum and visitor attraction which collects objects associated with farming and goods used by local craftsmen circa 1750-1960. Volunteers bring the museum alive by educating and entertaining visitors with crafts, demonstrations and hands-on activities.

Sound Vault

A radio space for all’ – a community-driven podcast and online audio network where volunteers can make ideas for first-person storytelling, specialist music and sound design into show realities.

Surrey Archaeological Society 

Since 1854, the Society has undertaken research fieldwork on the history and antiquities of Surrey, providing open days, lectures, conferences, training opportunities and exhibition displays.

The Arts Society Farnham is a member society of The Arts Society and features monthly lectures and other activities relating to the decorative and fine arts.

The Lions Club of Farnham

The Lions Club of Farnham has been serving our local community for 50 years. We have members in there 30’s, 80’s, some who have been with us for over 40 yrs and others just a few months. We welcome new members.

The William Cobbett Society

The William Cobbett Society was founded in 1976 to bring together those with an interest in the life and writings of William Cobbett. We also try to ensure that members enjoy various activities during the year.

Voluntary Action South West Surrey 

Voluntary Action South West Surrey is an independent charity funded by local authorities and the NHS to support, develop and promote voluntary and community involvement across the boroughs of Guildford and Waverley.  We offer an extensive range of free services to all voluntary groups in our area.

Waverley Borough Council Parks and Countryside 

We run practical volunteer sessions on our parks and countryside sites across the Borough of Waverley. Tasks include scrub clearance, hedge-laying, tree planting, pond work, and installing benches.

Woodlarks Campsite Trust

Disabled people of all ages come to Woodlarks for week-long holidays throughout every summer. Here children and adults with disabilities exceed their own expectations, benefiting from excellent facilities as well as a beautiful rural site. Woodlarks is run almost entirely by volunteers.

The Woodlarks Centre is an exceptional care home and activity centre situated in a beautiful location on the outskirts of Farnham.
