Film & Animation
Stephen Featherstone is a film maker who uses live action, animation and theatrical techniques and language in the production of his work.
He brings to his practice skills and knowledge from professional experience in the film, animation and television industries. His work is particularly visually led and is informed by his degree in Fine Art, and early career as a sculptor, as well as a post-graduate education in film. Currently he is engaged in both personal and commercial productions.
His personal films take an approach to making that enables him to practice independently and to explore moving image media, using them as a means of personal expression, while creating work that retains a clear relationship to mainstream narrative cinema.
Recent commercial work includes an ongoing series of collaborations with Nunkie Theatre to adapt some of their stage plays for the screen. Outputs from this partnership include four films based on the ghost stories of M. R. James which have been screened at film festivals and are on release on DVD. This is an area he is interested in exploring further and other collaborations are welcomed.
Alongside of this practical work Stephen has been a lecturer in film and animation for thirteen years and since 2002 he has been member of staff at the University for the Creative Arts, in Farnham. He has also delivered short courses and workshops.
“One of the main drives in my work is a love of narrative. I am fascinated by the process of creating little worlds and telling stories in them”.
